Introducing Okoth Braille Achieng

Greetings.

My name is Okoth Braille Achieng. I was born in 2005 along the coastal region of Kenya (Mombasa) and am a first born in a family of 5 siblings.

I grew up just as a normal child and started schooling at Victory Junior Academy which is in Mombasa.

East or west, home is the best. My father lost his job and life changed completely. Putting food on the table became difficult as he was the only bread winner of the family. Some of the things we used to do became history and my studies were also affected greatly since there was not enough money to pay my school fees. We had to return home which is at Osika, Homa Bay County.

I joined Osika Primary School in 2017 in standard 5 and began working extra hard in order to achieve my dreams. I was always motivated by my parents, teachers and other close relatives. “Hardships are stepping stones to becoming a better person.” They said. Through all these motivations, hard work, discipline, high self-esteem and prayer, I managed to score 411 marks in my final exams at primary level (K.C.P.E.)

In all my life, I have always wanted to make a positive history, make people around or supporting me proud and have a strong foundation to my future life. I have hope that I will one time pursue my dream of becoming an international newscaster and change the lives of my parents and the society at large.

I have chosen this career because I admire speaking eloquently and would like to do so in future. Languages being my best subjects would help me greatly in this. I would like to meet different people from different parts of the world and know or learn their cultures. I also would like to help the needy in future by providing them with some of the basic needs.

Thank you GENO for accepting to support me in my further studies. This in deed is a great motivation to me and I promise to work hard and make you proud always.

I pray to the Almighty to shower you with His blessings so that you can continue with the spirit of giving.

My best wishes.

Braille.
